Champagne Sabrage

The wedding ceremony is a time when generally all eyes are on the bride as she makes her grand entrance and walks down the aisle to be pronounced your wife. But come time for the reception you can turn the tables and shine the spotlight on you, the groom, with your own spectacular entrance.

Imagine surprising your guests and kick-starting your reception party by using a sword in dramatic fashion to open the first bottle of celebratory Champagne.

There is actually an official French Champagne Sabering Association, The Truffleman. Truffleman staff can offer you a custom-made and unforgettable sabering demonstration to entertain your guests, but if you do decide to go it alone Phillipe from The Truffleman give this advice:

“It can be dangerous. There are some important things you need to know, like what type of bottle to use. It is recommended that you use a bottle of Champagne and not sparkling wine, as the quality of the glass used is very important when performing a sabrage. It is possible for the glass to shatter or split.”

The idea of Champagne Sabrage is just so appealing to me that I simply had to have The Truffleman demonstrate and teach me about this art. I have to say, I can’t recommend this to you enough!! The idea of having the groom open the wedding reception by sabering a bottle of Champagne is super-sexy, (trust me, I’m a young single girl, I know these things). Here’s my attempt…

Grooms… this will seriously have your guests and wife in awe. What an absolutely amazing and memorable moment!

Inspired Memories – Stefan

Today, Stefan shares his memories of the day when Maeve and Stefan got married

“I will never forget the moment that I first spotted Maeve as she walked down the aisle with her father – she looked absolutely amazing, so stunningly beautiful but still ‘my Maeve’! Seeing all our family and friends together to celebrate our love, in such beautiful surroundings, the song we had carefully chosen, and of course my glamorous, glowing bride to be with a smile from ear to ear, I experienced an emotional outpouring that I never imagined possible, and it was all I could do to hold in the tears. It was the happiest, proudest and most emotional moment of my life… I’m lucky I had Maeve’s sister Hannah, her maid of honour, beside me whispering “keep it together Stef”!”

“While I’m sure it was delicious, I didn’t even taste the food, nor do I remember eating it, such was the elation I felt to be sitting next to my wife, and to be surrounded by the smiling faces of our family and friends. The reception passed in a flash, but I remember vividly the complete senses of joy, elation, pride and utter completeness that I felt that evening, dancing with my wife and watching all of our guests thoroughly enjoying the night and sharing in our happiness. It was a magical day. Whilst I may be slightly biased, it truly was about as close to perfect as a day could be.”

“It was also truly amazing to see all of the small details, which Maeve had envisioned and created so painstakingly, come together so beautifully to form an atmosphere which totally reflected our personalities, our relationship and our love for each other. All Maeve’s hard work and creativity paid off in creating a warm, personal and vintage feel which completely set the scene and mood for our beautiful ceremony and the following celebrations.”
